FKI Logistex Installs Low-Noise, Energy-Saving Automated Return System at Seattle Area Library
Redmond Regional Library boosts efficiency and noise control with low-voltage, electric material handling system
10 July 2008
(ST. LOUIS: July 10, 2008) FKI Logistex® (www.fkilogistex.com),
a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, has installed
a fully automated book return system at the Redmond Regional Library,
enabling the library to dramatically improve handling capacity and
efficiency. The library, a major branch of the King County Library
System that serves Seattle, Wash. and surrounding communities, will
be able to process an annual circulation of 1.1 million items at
a rate of 2,100 items per hour.
The Redmond Regional Library installation includes an indoor Library
Mate
barcode-based
self-service check-in kiosk, where patrons can automatically make
returns using a simple touch-screen interface, along with two outdoor
24/7 Library Mates, which allow patrons to make around-the-clock
returns. Returned items are conveyed to an energy-efficient, all-electric
FKI Logistex MiniSorter. A quiet alternative to high-decibel,
pneumatically powered conveyors, the MiniSorter minimizes noise
and keeps the library free of distractions as it routes returns
via six tote chutes, either to one of 12 Ergo Cart reshelving carts
or to an exception bin.
By providing a fast, efficient automated return system, the installation
allows Redmond Regional Library to preserve and enhance the experiences
of both its patrons and personnel. Because laborious manual handling
tasks are now automated, the library's staff can spend more time
assisting patrons on a personal level.
"Experienced FKI Logistex teams work continuously with our
library customers to develop innovative new ways to improve their
handling processes," said Cory McCoy, general manager, FKI
Logistex Library Solutions North America. "Our low-noise, energy-saving
installation at Redmond Regional Library underlines our focus on
providing responsive, pioneering material handling solutions to
face our customers' greatest challenges."
